It was for nostalgic moments like these that I take photos. Attached is photo of Dilip’s shop in the days not too long ago. It was 2003 August when I went to Goa last and did manage to take a few shots for “keepsake”. It Certainly had changed with heavy security grills to secure the shop against thieves and the like.

There may be other photos that you may recognize also – including DILKUSH, Saligao fountain, Ganesh immersion at the Donvaddo pond and Mapusa market.
Notice how beautiful the Saligao looks in the monsoon. It was only a couple of years before that I landed there when Arun and another person (?) raped and destroyed the pristine hillside near the fountain. I will try and dig up the archives to find the photos and put them side by side sometime later.

For those nostalgic about the past, don't be too surprised to find a nice posh new ground-plus-one structure in place of Dilip (Kamat's) old shop when you visit there next!
My only regret is that I didn't click a photograph of the old shop before it went down.
I remember Dilip's dad, Purso (short for Purshottam), who was also known as 'Master', since he taught in the local Marathi school, who ran the shop when I was a kid. Dilip's brothers -- Mahesh and Girish (Shyam) -- were in school with us, and with my unearthly (often nightly) hours and shifts or late night walks I used to often run into his other brother Nanda(kumar). Nanda still works at the MRF, and when he was young, used to be a footballer for the village club. I think a lot of the footballers were our local heros, and as schoolboys we really looked up to them!
Anyway, do share your notes about your reminiscences about Saligao, and the people and things that went into making it. We also have space for happy memories here, not just sharing our current day power, water-overwithdrawal, garbage, deforestation-near-the-fountain problems (though we need to discuss those issues too!)...
