Hello there !
As Maxwell has mentioned, there are a few houses ignored and going to ruins in Saligao.
On my last vacation, at my Artist bro-in-law's exhibition of paintings at Hotel Cidade de Goa,
I happened to meet with a European lady and as we just chatted I learned that she had
bought a house somewhere in Saligao, Salmona I think. But what she said was '' Instead of trying to hold on to the house
and let it go down to ruins, why do people not sell them, and allow someone to keep the house in good condition?''
I guess Goa is known for all it's legal house hassles, court cases, tenant problems etc, probably conflicts within owners of
the houses itself.
Ours is a beautiful village of Goa and truly as Maxwell has mentioned, when you see houses in ruins, you tend to think why ?
And at once we begin to look back in time and past memories of persons who lived in those houses.
Denis, I do not know you, ( much junior to you in age and a much junior saligaokar) but if you are from the house opposite Aunty Peggy's place,
then I have surely crossed that path all those years on my way to Lourdes Convent. And I remember many years ago, ( I was still in school)
there was some kind of garage sale in that house and my father bought some crockery from that house.
While we are on the topic of houses in Saligao, we have a very close friend( Goans) and another colleague at work here in Abu Dhabi
who want to buy a small plot of land or house in Goa and if anyone knows of one in Saligao, reasonable cost, please let me know.

Your great landmark Family house....
at the Saligao 'Wall-tar'.... as in 'Turning Corner' in English !.......
The house of the great Senhor Deonisio and the Saligao Sports Star of
yesteryears 'Denis'........
Please be advised that the roof of your ancestral house 'Balcao' seems to
be in bad shape.
Could come crashing down any day.....then offcourse... the whole house
would follow.
And sadly a great landmark in Arrarim will dis-appear.
I was very pained to see, when I was down on vacation last in Dec 2005, the
large and magnificient house of 'Anton Vaz' in Muddavadi, almost down in
ruins. Francis the great Bridge Player last lived in it, now he is in
Bangalore I'm told.
NO more roof at all but the thick walls are still standing. I met Dr. Suri
there and he had brought in to the site some Canada based close relatives
from the house who were staring at the ruins in dis-belief and in actual
tears !!
Another Big and great looking house about to go down is that
Felisbert/Frida/Maria Mathias used to live in. bang on the
'Wall-tar' turning corner, in line of the houses of
Bendros-Delaneys-Albino the medical Rep. Virtually no more roof above only
the thick walls still standing ! What a sad sight to see.
Am just back from a short and private visit to Saligao which was
pre-scheduled..
