Right Louis! Annette did reply & usually replies. Have replied to a posting
earlier but I'm sure it has gone to Rico as I forgot to change the address
in "to" column ... (put that down to the ageing process, grey matter is
slowly but surely turning white)...here I remembered to do the needful,
previously there was no such rigmarole involved, we just had to click on
reply & voila, the net address came in the relevant slot, anyway....
in the 20 or 25 years since you left Saligao - for Canada??
make that 30 years Louis, since Dennis says he left in 1976, same year that
Luwell left for the Gulf - what a long time ago... I feel ancient... no
wonder my heart is playing up these days & so are my bones .
starting first at Lourdes Convent. My Brother Lino also studied at
Britto's,
Yep, the good old days when my first (after my mother as teacher of course)
& best waltz partner was Lino! Oh & other dance partners were a couple of
footballers - Gabru & Newton, then there was Lyne, Felix & Amfred - guess
some of you will remember them. That was around the time we had a dance at
Lourdes Convent - it was a fantastic evening.
I suppose due to my Uncle (Fr. Lino D'Souza - Alle-budd-tha) being a priest
and science teacher in the school at the time.
Hey Louis, how unkind! But I recall most of the Britto boys making fun in
same way... thought it was "Adda budd aa"! The few times when I met & spoke
to Fr. Lino I didnt hear anything of the sort, maybe he got nervous of all
you naughty boys then - I bet you all drove him crazy, including Stephen &
Brian Vaz though senior to you all.
I remember Denis as a good football player and am not sure if he also
played
hockey with us on the Saligao hill above Donald Sequeira's place.
Hmm! so it was football & hockey eh? Surprisingly, Dennis didnt answer my
question about the sports
Annette, I take the opportunity of introducing you to Denis and all else
this time. (There is no >doubt that you will very quickly correct any
errors on my part)
Grrh! Louis! You make me sound a schoolmarm! "correct, errors"...But come to
think of it, I did make corrections earlier didnt I? Ha ha! You predicted
right!
Annette and her sister, Fiona were 2 slim, tall, spectacled girls who
walked
regularly from the "bandh" near Izza (Glen, Leon, Warren etc) Vaz's house
to
Hmm! Very diplomatic using the word slim, dont worry I've never bothered
about the word thin before. And now I find that I'm slim & the models we
see walking the ramp on CNN are really thin & bony! Including the
contestants that took part in the Miss India Femina. So I'm in the vogue
today as my friends are trying to get as slim as I am nowadays and are
failing. However I'm no longer tall, I'm now average as all the others (new
generation) are towering over me including the nephews who are over 6' -
grrh!
the Saligao Institute to spend hours reading the magazines and books at the
round, ornate, >carved table that sat to the left hand side in the SI hall.
Right! what else was there to do? Didnt get a chance to play table tennis or
carrom, the males hogged the particular area. Too scared to even stand near
the older folks & watch them play bridge or whatever card game was going on,
let alone asking them to let us join them. But got that chance during the
whist drives - played with & against experts like Mr. Delaney (Ashley's
Grandfather) Mr. Cordeiro (Mario's dad) etc. & must have played ok as did
not get shouted at & I didnt see any irritation on their faces & we
definitely moved forward from one table to the next. It was fun! Does the
Saligao Institute still conduct these whist drives?
I have found a couple of photos that I took which had Alfred(and others) in
it and I will post them >on the internet for everyone to view
