Derek Cordeiro (Barsen's son) was over last evening, and I took advantage of his presence to install Google Earth for GNU/Linux. It was great to see satellite photos of Saligao.
We were all excited to see, from the sky as it were, landmarks in the village -- plantations on the hills in straight lines (almost), the church, the cemetery-crematorium side-by-side, the parking place outside the church in grey asphalt, even the church itself (which looks smaller from the sky, not as impressive as its human eye's view), St Cajetan's Chapel, rather big patches of fields, and the different vaddos -- including the closely built Salmona-Arrarim area. The seminary looks most impressive from the skies -- with its oval playground and then its structure at one end. The Pilerne industrial estate is also ubiquitous, and loos like an untidy patch -- just as it is. When I showed Riza (8) a structure and ask her if she knew what it was, pat came the answer -- Lourdes Convent. And the 'C' shaped building indeed was!
