You need to make a BAT file
within the BAT file
start_VPN <parameters>
external_ping <parameters>
this means you will need an external check to the do ping (in my example
above called external_ping) and this external ping should be able to return
an error level to the application that calls it. (could be that it will
return it to the BAT and NOT to the real calling application, that's
something you'll need to test).
The big issue will be that you'll have to find/make external checks (the
real check not just the .BAT file) for each type of check you want to do,
and thus loose one of the advantages of Servers Alive, being is large list
of possible checks.
Dirk.

Subject: RE: [SA-list] dial-up & VPN?
Say I want to check our mail server over dial-up and I only (at this time)
want to ping it.
This is over a VPN via dial-up, so what do I need to do? I'm still in the
dark about how to do this.....
