Hi, Troy! Definitely not out of line. It sounds like you want two sections: one with up hosts, and one with down hosts. That's not currently possible in SA, although you can sort by status and put the down ones first.
I'd suggest you look at one of the drilldown templates instead, like this one: http://www.brentozar.com/salive/v4samples/Drilldown/default.asp This will show just the down checks out of each group, and you can click on a group name to show all of the checks (up or down) in the group.
