Dirk,

If it is any help, this the same thing that happens to me when SA is
first started (as a service)...it appears to be setting up the gui that
may be causing this.

Subject: RE: [SA-list] Servers alive takes 50%-99% CPU checking

Dirk,

So I still have a problem with performance even with Servers Alive not
checking hosts. When I delete an entry I get a 50% CPU spike even
though
SALIVE is not checking anything.

Do other people experience similar behaviour when making changes? If I
have
to live with it so be, but I have used this product for years and do not
recall having ever noticed poor performance when using the application.
I
am thinking it might make sense to remove Servers Alive with all my
add-ons
and then rebuild it.

Thanks,

Nathan

There shouldn't be a difference in that between the current version
(4.1)
and the previous versions (4.0).

So you don't think there is a problem with my host file?

Would your general recommendation be to stop the checks while entries
are
added and changed? I did not think I had to stop SALIVE while making
changes in previous versions in the past.

Thanks,

Nathan

Ping: yes (that was my example)
Diskspace: in some cases yes (thanks to the way the MS API calls work)

I am currently testing about 100 servers each have at least a ping most
have
disk space checking and a couple of key services. Should that account
for
99% CPU time?

Thanks,

Nathan

The CPU will go up in cases were we use "blocking" calls, like with a
ping.
However this should only take a short time.

I am running Servers alive on a HP Netserver with 2GB RAM, 2x 1GHZ P3s,
on
Windows 2000 Server OS.

I am finding it difficult to add and change entries on servers alive due
to
the CPU going to 50% when the hosts are being checked and 99% when I to
add,
change or browse.

I have downloaded the latest version and the problem persists. I am not
sure how long this is been happening as I have not been adding the
entries
myself, but I don't recall it being difficult to add the entries on the
go
in the past.

Is this abnormal behavior for relatively standard checks? If so do you
have
any ideas? I have made a backup of the host file if that might be where
to
start looking.

Thanks,

Nathan
