Can someone explain to me exactly what this SMTP2POP3 mail flow check is actually checking? I know in general it sends an email using SMTP and then checks if it is in the mailbox via POP3.
Does it use sequence numbers to determine if a mail is lost? For example, it sends email #1, email #2 and on check it only ever gets #2. In this case is a DOWN reported (ie. email #1 has been lost but mail is actually flowing in a limited way)? Can it determine that there is a long email delay. That is, mail is flowing but its taking 10 mins, 2 hours to get from SMTP to POP3?? Basically I need to determine these two cases not just mail flow so I need to know that this tool can determine this. If it cannot, is there anything else out there that I can use or any suggestions on what one would need to do to put this together using SA?
