Dirk,
I just
installed V5 over my V4 install,
and when the service started it gave me the “I can only do 10 checks”
warning. I thought this was no problem, but I found that my host file
got
re-written for only ’10 checks’.
Good thing I
had a backup to use after I
entered the new reg key.
I recommend
that the backup file be named
something other than the host file that is being loaded, so you can
save it as
the new host file name after registering.
Most
important is to always (and that is
not only related to this upgrade) have a backup of the important files
being
your hostfile (entries file).
Then install
v5 over v4, reboot the
system, start SA, enter the v5 code, restart SA.
Dirk.

Servers
Alive v5 released
Dirk,
Assuming
I understand his question, it's basically the same as mine:
*
I purchased the upgrade to v5 a few weeks back. If I install v5 over my
v4
installation, do I have to do anything special to license it properly?
In my
case, I purchased an upgrade from v4 Standard to v5 Enterprise.
*
Are there any upgrade best-practices or things that should be
reviewed/updated
immediately after upgrading?
*
Will the COM and ErrorLevel add-ons still function in v5? I have the
latest
versions (as far as I can tell).
Thanks,
Mike
Not sure to
understand the question.
Can you elaborate?
Dirk.

Dear list,
Purchasing a good monitoring solution is an investment. You want it
to run efficiently and smoothly for a long time, keeping it up-to-
date is essential. Without regular updates your monitoring solution
won't operate at its optimum performance level.
Based upon your feedback we took the challenge to make Servers Alive
version 5 with a lot of new and exciting features.
A lot of users asked for more SNMP features, so we added SNMPv3
support, SNMP oid and result look-ups, and SNMP rules within the SNMP
check. Custom scripts and custom fields give you more control over
the overall working of Servers Alive. The URL check is now able to
check your webpage with more accuracy. NTLM protected website can
now be checked with Servers Alive. You can now decide over the order
of the alerts, alerts which have been greatly improved with more
alerting types. Adding RRD logging to v4.1 was a big hit, in v5 the
RRD logging has been enhanced to support check result logging too.
These are just a few of the changes in Servers Alive v5, have a look
at our brand new website (http://www.woodstone.nu) to get more info
on all those new features.
Don't let your monitoring solution become obsolete, download Servers
Alive v5 today.
