Here is what happens when you do some DIR's.
The first one is done on the server for the root drive that shows the 2
mount points. The second one is when you to change to the directory on
the server and do a dir on the local directory. That shows the correct
free space. The third one is if you do a dir using a UNC path to the
files.
Here are the output's locally
E:\>dir
Volume Serial Number is 4266-8CD7
Directory of E:\
01/26/2005 04:57 PM <JUNCTION> VS1 SG1 Data
02/07/2005 03:40 PM <JUNCTION> VS1 SMTP - Tracking Logs
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 7,009,247,232 bytes free
here is the output from the directory.
E:\VS1 SG1 Data>dir
Volume Serial Number is 4266-8CD7
Directory of E:\VS1 SG1 Data
02/15/2005 01:26 PM <DIR> First Storage Group
01/27/2005 12:13 PM <DIR> Message Tracking Logs
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 43,004,616,704 bytes free
Here is the output for the same thing done from over the network.
C:\>dir "\\Server\e$\VS1 SG1 Data"
Volume in drive \\Server\e$ is VS1 SG1 Data
Volume Serial Number is 4266-8CD7
Directory of \\Server\e$\VS1 SG1 Data
02/15/2005 01:26 PM <DIR> First Storage Group
01/27/2005 12:13 PM <DIR> Message Tracking Logs
0 File(s) 0 bytes
2 Dir(s) 7,009,247,232 bytes free

The freespace checks gives you the free space of the share, the way the
OS reports it.
Dirk.

Being able to disk free using volume mount points in Windows 2003
E.G. when you mount a volume as a folder being able to get the free disk
space that is for that volume rather than the host drive.
Add a spare hard disk to a computer and mount the volume to a folder
rather than a drive letter and then try to get the free disk space for
that folder only. Everything seems to only return the space for the
drive that holds the folder.
If that makes any sense.
Davey
