You probably know this, but you can reach the 2003 "machine" session via RDP as well, with the latest TS client. Use the syntax;
<computername> /console in the server to connect to dialog. You need the version of MSTSC.EXE (and mstscax.dll) that come with 2003, maybe the XP one works, I'm not sure.
