The import will use it as it's in the file, so if it's
empty in the file it will be empty after the import too.
Dirk. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Barron,Joseph Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 10:11 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [SA-list] Import Hosts -- Preserve Pretty Names? I’ve created my 3 generic sets of
entries/checks. I have 130 PC’s, each of which will need to be configured
for one of these three sets of entries. The “Import Hosts” function is
nifty, but I do have one problem. I’ve spent a lot of time crafting
generic Pretty Names and alert messages, combining various message variables
with the pretty name to create a useful message that can be replicated with
little modification. The pretty name is a key element of my alert
messages, yet when I import hosts I can’t figure out how to have it replicate
the pretty name, instead of overwriting it. I had hoped that just
separating hostname and remark with ,, in the host import file would do the
trick, but this seems to populate the pretty name with null rather than preserve
it. If I must recreate all the pretty
names every time I import hosts, it’s not a terrible thing. It will still
be far faster than endlessly doing a ctrl-d and reconfiguring each entry.
Still, if there is a way the pretty name can be preserved, I’d love to hear of
it. TIA.
