Yes that looks like one of the possible reasons.
 
Adding the subject to the error could indeed help.  I'll have to see if/how this can be changed.

Would this  be most likely to happen when there is a delay in the mail process and smtp2pop3 is picking up a previous message instead of the most current one?
 
I, also, have this situation.  It would be most helpful to "see" the "wrong subject" in the error message.

the smtp part sends a mail with a specific subject and the pop3 expects to get that same mail back (with that subject).  What is happening is that it does get a mail back send by smtp2pop3 but not with the subject that was expected.

Can any of you help me with this problem? I have set up the SMTP2POP3 check running on build 1748 of SA, and it appears to come back with a successful check about 30% of the time. The rest of the time it fails with a message of: ERR POP3: messages received with wrong subject.

Details from the logs are:

08 February 2006 07:09:04 External SMTP Server
08 February 2006 07:09:04 External COM check started (W00000008,924,-1)
08 February 2006 07:09:04 DEBUG: got new parameters
08 February 2006 07:09:04 External COM check (W00000008,924):ERR POP3: messages received with wrong subject
08 February 2006 07:09:04 Sending email message (External SMTP Server (Incoming SMTP Mailcheck) is DOWN)

I have tried playing around with various settings, but can't get it working. Any ideas?
