How difficult would it be to create an "import" app. It reads the current
config file, imports the lines from the integration pack, then asks for the
hostname/pretty name. It should also update the UIDs.

At the most base(but unsupported) level it could be a copy and paste into the
config and manual updates of hostnames and UIDs.

I think that this is indeed a good idea….just have to come up with a way to
create/import them into SA……

It's not a COM check idea but this made me wonder about creating
pre-configured(minus hostname or IP address) monitor groups for generic/common
items. APC is a good one, performance counters and services for Exchange or
SQL server, Cisco OIDs, etc.

Other monitoring tools call these Management Packs, Application packs,
Integration packs, Dynamic Applications, etc.

The creation would likely be a community effort but would definitely need
guidance from Dirk about the best way to import into SA.

What about a com utility that knows the standard MIBs for APC ups units? They
you could have a simple app for checking temp, voltage, battery age, etc
without forcing user to go through long SNMP strings.

It's not about doing something new, as much as doing a common thing much
easier and cleaner....

Just my two cents.

We're looking for some good ideas for new COM checks for Servers Alive.
If you have a specific checking need and it can't be done with Servers
Alive, then please share that with us..and maybe we'll make a COM check for
it :-)
