When the service is running, then the service is doing the checks from within the context of the user running the service and as such reporting the status of the check(s). The output you get then reflects the same result. If you run SA as application then the checks are done within the context of the user running the application and the output reflects that too.

Hi Dirk, I actually have restarted the service, but that has not made a difference in the reporting of this one entry. If I stop the service, and open the application, the web reporting is correct, matching what the application shows as the correct status of the entries. FYI, entries with ping checks are reported correctly via the service. _________________________________________ Ken Applebaum Enterprise Network and Solutions Engineer Nazareth College 4245 East Avenue Rochester, NY 14618 Office: 585-389-2104 Cell: 585-748-1115 From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dirk Bulinckx Sent: Friday, September 28, 2012 10:46 AM To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] RRDtools web page shows entry down, ServersAlive app shows entry up, entry is really up. If you run Servrs Alive as service and as app at the same time then you can get different checking results aspecialy for checks that are "windows" based like a service/process/perfmon/diskspace check. If you run the app and make config changes then you will have to restart the service is order to get the service to see those changes. Do you get the difference in behaviour between the weboutput too when SA is only running as app (and not at the same time as service)? Hi Dirk, I do have Servers Alive running as a service. The symptom I am describing occurs when SA is running as a service, as well as when the application itself is open. I assume that you configure all your alerts within the application, and when you close it, the salive service runs based on the configuration from the application. Am I correct in this assumption? _________________________________________ Ken Applebaum Enterprise Network and Solutions Engineer Nazareth College 4245 East Avenue Rochester, NY 14618 Office: 585-389-2104 Cell: 585-748-1115 From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:[email protected] (mailto:[email protected])] On Behalf Of Dirk Bulinckx Sent: Friday, September 28, 2012 10:01 AM To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: RE: [SA-list] RRDtools web page shows entry down, ServersAlive app shows entry up, entry is really up. You're linking this to RRD while there is no link to RRD. RRD creates graphs nothing more. Could it be that you have the service (of Servers Alive) running and generating the webpages and have the Servers Alvie application itself running too?. Hi, I have an unusual situation. I have one entry in Servers Alive that monitors the VMware virtual server service on our vCenter server. This service is up. The Servers Alive application shows the service up. However, the website that RRDtools shows this service to be down with response: ERR: connect to host failed: 1312(A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.) should be: Apparently have some reporting issue with RRD tools. I did go into Setup > Output > HTML page > Default page and clicked “Clear Cache”, but this did nothing. Any thoughts? _________________________________________ Ken Applebaum Enterprise Network and Solutions Engineer Nazareth College 4245 East Avenue Rochester, NY 14618 Office: 585-389-2104 Cell: 585-748-1115 To unsubscribe send a message with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line to [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) If you use auto-responders (like out-of-the-office messages), make sure that they are not sent to the list nor to individual members.
