We were using instant messaging for a long time to alert the engineers during
the day, on the specific servers they were responsible for. With the problems
encountered with IMing, that hasn't remained feasible. We are moving to Lync
in the future, but no idea when.

If there was a way that an engineer could run an agent/service to connect to
the SA instance and only pick/choose what he/she wanted to see on his screen,
that would be a huge help to us. Right now, the alerts are setup and this
works, and has always worked. But - if each engineer could have a little agent
that polls the server for "their" items and notate it on their screen with a
sound, pop-up, color change of icon or something, that would be tremendous and
IMing wouldn't be necessary.

2013 is the current version and REST is so much easier than MS API's so that
would be the logical choice. Not a huge fan of most MS enterprise products but
Lync has been very good.

I look forward to seeing IF this happens...

If you use auto-responders (like out-of-the-office messages), make sure that
they are not sent to the list nor to individual members. Doing so will cause
you to be automatically removed from the list.
