Along the lines of SAM recovery. We just had a situation where we felt
it would be handy to list all the information contained in the
samfsdump. We were unsure all the information contained in our dump was
accurate.
Perhaps something that would produce output similar to a archive_audit
without necessarily needing to do the restore? Seems as though
samfsrestore allows you to list the dump is many ways but does not
include one what dumps all the information and/or the VSN, file copy /
position information. The backline engineer was nice enough to suggest
an RFE but was told by a developer "he doesn't see or understand what
the exact scenario/need would be for being able to pull the archive info
out of the inode. He doesn't believe this would be a good candidate for
enhancement to the product."
Does anyone else see any value in being able to list all of the
information in a samfsdump? We've already worked around the problem but
I did not expect this type of resistance from such an easily implemented
/ natural feature.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Daniel!
For a general discussion how to recover files from tapes, see the
SAM-QFS Troubleshooting Guide at
http://wikis.sun.com/display/SAMQFSDocs52/SAM-QFS+Troubleshooting
especially
http://wikis.sun.com/display/SAMQFSDocs52/Restoring+Files+and+Directories
Several cases are discussed:
* Restore with meta data backup
* Restore with archiver log or sls output
* Restore without archiver log information (w/ and w/o SAM software)
