Well, as a kind of taster, here is a copy of my Sam sample player,
which plays samples in the common Sam format (2 4-bit samples
per byte) at a rate of 7812Hz (with the screen on, obviously).
And for a limited period, you can also obtain by WWW a <a href=
"http://www.comlab.ox.ac.uk/oucl/users/ian.collier/Misc/QLtheme.bin";
>gigantic 280K sample</a> to go with it.  :-)

The code lives at 33000 and is 282 bytes long.  Just go

CALL 33000,start,length

where "start" is the starting address of the sample in memory, and "length"
is the number of samples it contains (that's twice the number of bytes,
confusingly enough).
