I once got a disc of 8-bit samples with a player that played either in 4-bit resolution to the sound chip or 8 bit via the parallel port to a DAC device.
The bloke who wrote it had already built one of these gizmos, some Australian fellow as I recall. Tragically, there were no assembly instructions on the DAC gizmo, but I presume it would be the same as what has been described previously. If anybody wants a copy they are welcome. Dan.
