i did some fun experiments and they worked great. used red/blue tho, and
on a black background, and i didn't use a standard purple when they
overlapped either (it was much redder)

unconvinced - i expect the scan conversion could handle two sets of data
with only a minor decrease in speed, eg 12 frames -> 10 frames.
possibly, anyway.
