Many thanks to everyone who has replied to my query . I have worked out how
to run a programme automatically when a cartidge is inserted into the
microdrive and the RUN key is pressed ....
For those who are interested , this is it ...
call the programme that you wish to auto start ....."run"
to save the programme with name 'run' the command is
SAVE * "m" ;1; "run"
this works fine .
I was fooled by my cartridge having a file named 'run' as well as having
the file with the name that I had origionally saved the programme as .
That is there are 2 copies of my programme on the cartridge , one is called
'run' , and the other is called ' TANC2.7'
I think the logic behind that ,was that there would be a back up copy as
well as a working copy on the drive . This , I had forgotten .
The programme that I wrote has a 'REM' statement dating it as 1989 ,
so that is why I am a bit rusty with the Speccy Microdrive commands ,
Things have come a long way in 11 years , the cartridge capacity for the
Microdrive shows 85 Kilobytes when empty .
What I would like to do next is put my Spectrum BASIC programmes and
Machine code programmes onto my PC and run them via an emulator . The snag
is that I have a Z80PIO interface hooked up to the Spectrum which is
controlling the movement of 3 stepper motors . (which are used to control
the cutter path in a milling machine )
If anyone has any experience of using a PC in controling stepper motors ,
and can point me in the direction of hardware , books , techniques etc
of motion control then I would , once again ,be most greatful .
Sorry if I have been rambling on a bit , I will finish now .
cheers ,
Trevor
