In my opinion, your Sam is working properly. I always found the load and save to be a lot more tempremental than the speccy as far as tapes were concerned. One thing you could try is to slow the save speed down. You can vary the speed by the DEVICE TNNN command, where NNN is the speed (lower=faster). The manual suggests 30 as the fastest you can get away with, the default spectrum value is, IIRC, about 140. Try cranking it up to 200 or something. I finally got it working with a tape deck I used to use with the speccy and setting the volume up *very* high. Dave
