Im freeing up memory but i never know how much to free and clear,
the main problem at the mo is with a game and it starts with

10 OPEN 2: CLEAR 110000: PAUSE 10: MODE 4: CLS
40 LOAD "tomatoant" LINE 0

in game there is 37124 bytes still free, however I removed about 9K of graphics a few months ago to try and stop the crashing... If i try and work on the program by
adding liines then it will freeze, perhaps not at first but it`s at the point where it will happen :(

... just had a look at the game and it`s 48.5K with graphics and 39.5K when
the graphics are cleared, which is smaller than normal for this type of problem.

I wondered if perhaps there are certain areas in memory where I should
poke the graphics, never did like not having them saved with program but
if it might help?

I`ll post up a copy of the programs in question it it would help.

off the top of my head...

I thought you need to use the CLEAR n  (n=pages ) which then frees up the memory for large BASIC programs?
