Come on - that's horrid!

Considering that we worked out that we *do not* need the same mutex, why
do we have to have all that silly 'keep mutex' stuff?

Really, having a second mutex would not be *that* hard, and might
actually make the code possible to follow, reduce bugs etc...

And we still don't have any account for all the other things that might
contact the DC along the way...
