With Windows domain controllers with when the profile size is too big (and there are limits appled), when the user logs out, he/she gets a warning, and a list of files, sorted from the biggest, to the smallest.

Is it possible to do something like that with a Samba domain controller?

With quota enabled on a Samba server, user just gets a small error window, and has to scroll down and read a lot of text to understand what happened (and in the end he/she will probably not notice/understand that the profile wasn't uploaded back to the server, which means some data may be lost).
