Good day.

The server is a Solaris 9 Sparc, fully patched, running 3.0.25a. The backend
is just the smbpasswd file, security = user. This has worked for simple
file sharing as long as I can remember.

gcc 3.4.6 was the compiler and it was built with:

./configure --prefix=/scratch/samba --with-acl-support=yes

When I set a password for a user with smbpasswd, if the password is <= 8
characters, smbclient can access the user's directory fine from any machine.

If, however, the password is 9 characters or greater, the Solaris smbclient
from 3.0.25a works fine, but any Linux smbclient fails with:

session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE

Thanks for any direct help or for any pointers.

Cheers,
Zube
