It's starting to seem slow to me, no longer recognizes the UPS line that's plugged into the USB port, and it's rather noisy (between the fans and the old SCSI hard drive).
I put together a more up-to-date system (Athlon XP 1800) and installed Linux on it. I intended to transfer my Sambar setup onto the Linux box, but I had trouble figuring out how to get Linux to boot from the SATA RAID array I'd put in the box.
Recently I attended a Microsoft seminar and got a copy of <deep inhale> Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition <exhale> and installed that on the new box.
The server is just for myself (and any friends or family who want an account), so either Sambar or IIS/Exchange will work okay for me.
I have no experience with IIS/Exchange (or Server 2003, for that matter) and I'm not sure how to set it up, but it's installed by default, and I don't know how difficult it is to stop those services from running automatically at boot time.
So, does anyone know if it would be easier to disable the Microsoft software and run Sambar, or figure out how to set up IIS & Exchange?
FWIW, I plan to run my own DNS server, and maybe a NNTP server, eventually, too. Also, I used to like the calendaring part of Exchange at my old job, but where I'm the only user I don't know if that's a compelling reason to use Exchange.
