There was a similar expr: syntax error: missing argument after "-" reported on the list in these two threads https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/sane-devel/2019-November/037275.html https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/sane-devel/2019-November/037277.html without a final resolution by the looks of it. This was on Ubuntu 19.04, also pretty recent and probably not unlike Debian's bullseye. The bug is triggered in the post-inst script of the iscan-data package, when it calls its own make-policy-file utility. Can you provide the log.out file created by running, as root, sh -x make-policy-file --force --mode udev \ --registry /var/lib/iscan-data/clean-files \ --out-file policy.out > log.out 2>&1 If the policy.out file is not empty, please attach that too. # Please use `su -l` or `sudo -i` to become root. Just `exit` to become # your good old self again.
