I have well working Umax Astra 600S connected via INI9100U scsi card. Week ago, it stop scanning. I think I do not change anything, but perhaps was installed new version of SANE automatically by debian.
I use xsane and it stop on initial dialog "listing avail. devices" (not sure about exactly phrase, because it is localized), then it hang up and only use a lot of CPU and scanner's lamp switch on. The dialog when I can choose which scanner I want use do not show. Some debug info: $ sane-find-scanner found SCSI scanner "UMAX Astra 600S V1.2" at /dev/sg1 /dev/sg1 is symlink in devfs to /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target5/lun0/generic $ export SANE_DEBUG_UMAX=13 $ scanimage -L [umax] sane_init [umax] This is sane-umax version 1.0 build 38 ....
