I have exactly the same problem with my HP ScanJet 5300C. I have already=20 posted two messages here, but up to now nobody could help me.
In my case, something seems to claim the interface. I tried=20 EXPORT SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_USB=3D255 and then a SCANIMAGE -L which resulted in [sanei_usb] sanei_usb_find_devices: vendor=3D0x03f0, product=3D0x0701 [avision] attach: (Version: 1.0 Build: 80) [avision] attach: opening libusb:003:002 [sanei_usb] sanei_usb_open: trying to open device `libusb:003:002' Check that you have permissions to write to 003/002 and, if you don't, that= =20 you set up hotplug (http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/) correctly. USB error: could not claim interface 0: Device or resource busy [sanei_usb] sanei_usb_open: libusb complained: could not claim interface 0:= =20 Device or resource busy [sanei_usb] Maybe the kernel scanner driver claims the scanner's interface?
