Wow, a lot of Mac+SANE+microtek users sprung up out of nowhere all of 
 a sudden.

Perhaps a bug in the "real calibrate" code, perhaps tickled by a bug on
 the OS-X port...

Try uncommenting the "norealcal" line in the your installed "microtek.conf".
That should skip that operation.  (If that doesn't work, try uncommenting
 the "noprecal" as well.)  Please do send another debug log, for each case
 that you try, whether it works or not --- to [email protected].
