Wow, a lot of Mac+SANE+microtek users sprung up out of nowhere all of a sudden.
Perhaps a bug in the "real calibrate" code, perhaps tickled by a bug on the OS-X port... Try uncommenting the "norealcal" line in the your installed "microtek.conf". That should skip that operation.
