A bit more information - the problem only happens with a grey scale scan

ie with these scanimage options:
scanimage -v -v -v --device coolscan:/dev/sg1 --resolution 2700 --type Negative
--mode Gray

When I omit the `--mode Gray', it seems to work fine. It's been a long
while since I scanned b/w work so this may have crept in some time ago.

Thanks
