tested in windows, it's my scanner.  i don't think it's freebsd -- it was
working fine last week (had not updated world/kernel for months, now i'm
using the latest 6_stable and still not working).  i'm going to try the
latest sane-cvs.

the culprit is either sane backends (but i couldn't restore an old enough 
version to verify of the freebsd usbd itself
