PC: Debian Etch, samba + CUPS server (no GUI), sane-utils installed 3 printer on CUPS: 1. Samsung CPL-500 color laser 2. HP DeskJet 5150 3. Samsung SCX-4200 (all-in-one) CUPS is handling the 3 printers without fuss -> raw queue, windows drivers on the clients
scanner: Samsung SCX-4200 multifunctional device, (laser printer + scanner). Id like to share the scanner with saned for the WinXP clients. I DO NOT want scan from the linux box directly. installed the latest Samsung unified Linux driver. It complained a little about the lack of X, but finished without problem. installed sane-utils. Problems: -sane-find-scanner find the scanner -scanimage -L output: device `smfp:SAMSUNG SCX-4200 Series on USB:1' is a SAMSUNG SCX-4200 Series on USB:1 Flatbed Scanner -lsusb output: Bus 004 Device 040: ID 04e8:341b Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Bus 004 Device 037: ID 04e8:3248 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 003 Device 017: ID 03f0:6204 Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 5150c Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 first: SCX-4200, second:CPL-500 -BUT when i try scan from comand line (for testing purpose only): scanimage > /tmp/image output parport 0x378 (WARNING): CTR: wrote 0x0c, read 0xff parport 0x378 (WARNING): DATA: wrote 0xaa, read 0xff parport 0x378: You gave this address, but there is probably no parallel port there! parport0: PC-style at 0x378, irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven) and the color laser wakes up from sleeping. I seems to me, that the pc probes the wrong port for the scanner. I tried "scanimage -d smfp" without any success. I cannot find out the corrent device name for the SCX scanner. Im a newbie in sane (and USB devices), so any help will be greetly appreciated. Thanks Roger PS: sorry for my poor english. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Sanning-from-command-line---need-find-out-correct-device-name-tf4568796.html#a13039788 Sent from the SANE - Dev mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
