If a mixed version installation does not work well, we can only wait and keep the old stuff until all what is important for us (sane-backends, sane-frontends, xsane, KDE scanning frontend) is ready to work and then switch completely to the new stuff. Backward compatibility (i.e. have no regression bugs) is usually more important than new features, in particular when new features are not essential to use a scanner. Additionally there is the LSB standard... By the way: Because of this we still have Iscan version 2.10, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=425743 Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany AG Nuernberg, HRB 16746, GF: Markus Rex
