I do not know of any bug that needs fixing. Using a proper non-Debian site would also stimulate actually using a bug tracking system, same goes for CVS (which is not only a pain to use but also mis-merged a chunk which causes bugs in the last major release). That said I think it's time to split the backends into individual ones like the X.org drivers so every maintainer can release updates of the single backends at a sane rate and when something is ready. -- Ren?
