I showed the resulting color image (color_300dpi.tif) to a friend of mine, and he quickly figured out that the colors are fixed by interchanging the blue and red channels and by shifting the red color layer 8 pixels downwards and the blue layer 8 pixels upwards. The shifting of the channels to be performed after swapping blue and red channels.
