The networking code uses the USB code but adds a network stack to the USB interface. Therefore check first if the device works over USB. If USB fails get the USB debug information by setting SANE_DEBUG_PIXMA=11. If USB works, but network scanning does not, please provide a debugfile generated with SANE_DEBUG_BJNP=3. For details see man sane-pixma. If only netowrked scans fail, also check the firewalling chapter in that man -page.
