Deadline June 13, 2011 A De Montfort University PhD research studentship is available in the Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre (MTIRC), in association with Centre for Computational Intelligence (CCI) and the Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT). The scholarship, which covers tuition fees, is available to suitably qualified UK or EU students. (EU-level tuition coverage may also be made available to exceptional non-EU candidates.)
The project title is ³Creative Technologies for Pitch-Continuous Melodic Expression². Informed by a wide range of non-Western musical traditions, if focuses on the development and compositional use of new technologies that move away from the ³discrete pitch event² biases of most current computer music tools. A link to the complete scholarship description and instructions for application can be found at http://www.dmu.ac.uk/research/humanities/scholarships-2011/ Though the brief reads as being quite specific, we are also interested in receiving applications from those who wish to pursue research in this general domain, but perhaps with different emphasis or approach. Bret Battey, Senior Lecturer Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre De Montfort University
