 viShayAn        = materialistic things

 sa.NgastaH      = attached
 upajAyate       = to happen
 sa.NgAt         = by attachment
 kAmaH           = desire
 sa.NjAyate      = will happen
 kAmAt           = by desire
 krodhaH         = anger
 abhijAyate      = will be generated


tAtparyaH:
 When a person thinks of worldly things, an attachment is developed upon
them.
 With the attachment comes the desire(to acquire them perhaps) and with the
desire,
 anger gets generated (if unable to acquire)

pratipadArthaH:
 krodhAt          = by anger
 sammohaH         = trance, fits
 bhavati          = will happen
 sammohAt         = by trance
 smR^iti vibhramaH= mental blackout (vibhramaH = reverse swing)
 smR^tibhraMshAt  = by mental blackout
 buddhinAshaH     = loss of wisdom
 buddhinAshAt     = by the loss of wisdom
 praNashyati      = will be destroyed (will perish)


tAtparyaH:
 By anger (of either failure to acquire or loss of acquired thing),
 (the person attains a state of) trance, by trance results the mental
 blackout. With the mental blackout, person loses wisdom and loss of
 wisdom results in destruction.


Raghu Adds:
   Stages of a man's downfall is neatly described in the above 2 verses.
   At first, a person thinks of an objectand developes attachment with the
same.
   With the attachment, grows the desire to acquire. With the acquisition or
the
   failure to acquire results in anger (may be pride due to the possession
of the object)
   (or anger due to the loss of it).

   From anger, the man loses his mental stability and enters into a state of
trance.
   Being in this state, it does not take much time for a mental blackout to
occur.
   Mental blackout naturally results in the loss of wisdom and hence a man
perishes.

   So, one has to give up thinking about materialistic acquisitions and
think of
   God to attain 'moksha', ultimate salvation.

 sa.MyamI  = a recluse
 jAgarti   = will be awake
 pashyatah = lo! behold, see
 yasyAM    = in which (fem. gen.)
 bhUtAni   = living things
 jAgrati   = are awake
 sA        = that
 muneH     = of a hermit/recluse/R^ishi
 nishA     = night

tAtparyaH:
 During the night of living beings, a recluse will be awake;
 and behold, when the living beings are awake, that would be a
 night for a recluse/hermit

Raghu adds:
 Though the above tAtparya is literally correct, it has to be taken
metaphorically.
 If considered figuratively, this becomes, a hermit/recluse who has given up
the
 worldly pleasures will ignore the mundane desires of the common living
beings like
 ashana, vasana (food, clothing etc.).
 But, he will be widely awake for the things like moksha(eternal salvation),
God etc.
 which the normal living beings ignore or unaware of. Thus, a recluse/hermit
stands out
 in the society.
