Namaste,
vaH is the alternative for the plural forms of yuShmad in the 2nd, 4th and
6th case 'yuShmAn', 'yuShmabhyam' and 'yuShmAkam'. So the meanings for vaH
are
1. in the accusative eg. guruH vaH pAThayati = the teacher teaches ' you all
'.
2. in the dative eg. saH vaH phalam dadAti = He gives fruit ' to you all '.
3. in the genitive eg. idam vaH pustakam = This is ' your ' book. (meaning
belonging to you all).

Now coming to the given sloka, the main sentence is
' indreNa vaH nR^isha.nsAni kR^itAni ' 'Cruel acts were committed by indra
to you all'. Although the english translation gives the impression of 4th
case, it is in the 6th case. The foll. eg might help better in
understanding - In the active voice the sentence would be 'indraH tava hitam
karoti' and in passive voice it is 'indreNa tava hitam kr^itam'.

Further, vaH is not an alternate form for tr^itIya.

HTH
Aarathi.

> >vaH=to you all;
>
> Shouldn't this be tR^tIya meaning "by you", so the whole sentence means
"why
> wasn't he stopped by you"? yuShmAn.h = vaH.
>
> -srinivas
