Apte's dictionary gives the word:
allaa (Etymology?) A mother (voc alla) Panini 7.3.107, The supreme Goddess.
There is reference in Islamic literature to the original deity of the pagans
being a Goddess called allaa. Later Prophet Mohammed revised the idea and
the masculinity of the Supreme Lord.
My question is to the derivation (etymology) of the sanskrit word. Is there
any vedic usage of the word or elsewhere? According to Paninini:
amba, akka, alla are all indicative of mother. Hence the word is much older
than the onset of islam in India. Any ideas?
