Hi all,

In The BhagavadGita in 3.27 there is a Bahuvrihi:

ahaMkAravimUDhAtmA

he whose self is confused by egotism

How do I build a nominative singular if it is a she who is confused
by egotism?

Now take the example of somebody who is nameless

anAman is a neuter noun if it is not a Bahuvrihi.

If it is a masculine who is nameless how do I build the nominative
singular?

Do I start from anAma to build anAmaH

And if it is a feminine who is nameless is it
        anAmA

?

I am looking to study the Panini sutrani. Are there any clear texts that
members can recommend? I have Ballantyne's Laghu and Vasu's Kaumudi. Any other?

Most Grateful,

Marty

nAman is a neutre pradipadika.
anAman is a na~n (negative) samaasa. As a bahuvrIhi it will be:
anAma in the neutre
anAmA in the masculine
anAmA or anAmnii in the feminine (Pan 4.1.28)

in the case of a bahuvrIhi compound involving Atman (masculine) ti will be:
ahaMkAravimUDhAtmA in the masculine
ahaMkAravimUDhAtman or ahaMkAravimUDhAtmA in feminine (Pan 4.1.12)

rAmaH

The answer to the last question appears to be anAmikA, feminine.

Look at the wellknown shloka -

purA kavInaaM gaNanaa-prasange
kaniSThikaadhiSThita-kaalidasaa /
adyaapi tattulya-kaverabhaavaat
anaamikaa saarthavatii babhuuva //
