Nowadays some of our sanskrit mailing list members are sending
emails that have no relevance to sanskrit discussions.
Since I saw several of such emails recently, it's time to
remind people of mailing list etiquette. Please bear with me.
Please REFRAIN from sending a mail to the sanskrit mailing list UNLESS
you have a question/comment related to the sanskrit language and
literature. Please keep in mind that this list is intended only for
sharing knowledge of sanskrit and learning the language, and
IS NOT a hang-out place for gossiping or making Internet-buddies
except when involving sanskrit.
So, before hitting that send button,
THINK TWICE whether your email has anything to do with sanskrit.
If not, DON'T send that mail to [email protected] as it
will annoy everybody except you.
Specifically,
- DON'T send emails introducing yourself, or to say that you're
interested in sanskrit.
- DON'T send emails informing list members of events UNRELATED to
sanskrit (unless you express yourself in sanskrit language).
- DON'T send emails that are of interest only to specific members or
admins. If you have admin questions, send them to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], NOT [EMAIL PROTECTED]
^^^^^
In short, the relevance rule here is,
"Speak about sanskrit, or speak in sanskrit"

Namaste,
I have a doubt in Srisuktham. The first stanza says
chandraam hiranmayeem lakshmeem jaatavedo mamaavaha -
which means, oh jaataveda(agni), please invite lakshmi for me
The second stanza says
taam ma avaha jaatavedo lakshmeemanapagamineem
which also mean, asking jaataveda to invite lakshmi.
But, literally ma means 'do not'. Then meaning turns upside down. Then how is
that it appears here?. ma also appears in other stanzas also down way. I think
it should be
taam mamavaha jaatavedo lakshmeemanapagamineem
as maam refers to 'me'.
Is it so that, as stotras were oral, some words are being changed from man to
man? If not, can some one clarify my doubt, excusing my ignorance?
Dhanyavadah,
Bharajwajasa gotrah Manda Krishna Srikanth Sarman.

Namaste !!!!!!
Just now I read some one's mail on Doubt in Sri Suktham.
Can any one please tell me the Etymology of the Word Laksmi.
Just as I was reading Mahatma Gandhi's collected works, Gandhiji praises Rajaji
for explaining to him the etymology of the word Lakshmi.
But unfortunately the explanation is not there. It would be nice if some one
were to explain it.
Dhanyavadaha,
S.Karthik
Vandemataram
