*Sr./Lead Network Engineer*

Project Details:

There are a number of projects that our client is launching on their global
data network. Among these are a project to migrate an Illinois data center
to Nexus, a SAN/NAS architecture and implementation project, a IP Multicast
architecture and implementation project, and a project to extend limited
VoIP implementations to additional offices around the globe (our role would
be more on the network architecture to support VoIP rather than
implementation of VoIP phones ourselves).

Many of the projects are medium-long duration (several months or more) and
highly complex, requiring elements of project management, architecture, and
coordination of disparate teams and departments. The environment is such
that the senior engineer/project owner has to be the driving force to
achieve project success - someone who relies on direction from others will
struggle. Lastly, there are many entrenched systems, architectures, and
attitudes that provide obstacles to change; the successful practitioner has
to constantly drive positive options, solutions, and progress toward
completion rather than be stymied by obstacles.

Qualifications:

Must Haves:

• Self motivated /ability to perform autonomously. Candidate must be a
“doer” who can drive projects to successful completion and who can implement
and troubleshoot (not just an architect or idea person).

• Experience designing AND implementing large networks (as senior/lead
engineer, not just part of a team)

• 3+ years of experience as a senior or lead engineer, including being an
escalation point and/or mentor for junior engineers

• 5+ years of experience working on Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switches
(6509, 6505, 6513).

• 5+ years of experience working with enterprise or carrier class Cisco
routers such as 12000 series, 7600 series, or CRS (these might appear on a
resume with more specific model numbers such as XR12000, 12016, 12010,
12406, CRS-3, 7604, 7613, etc.)

• 5+ years of experience working with both Wide Area Networks (WAN) and
Local Area Networks (LAN)

• Strong knowledge of routing protocols, especially BGP (Border Gateway
Protocol) - preferably experience designing and implementing large scale BGP
networks

• Experience with both Windows and Unix environments

Nice to Haves:

• CCIE (with a certification number: NOT just a "written" CCIE) in "Routing
and Switching" or in "Service Provider." Having a multiple-CCIE would be
nice. CCIE in Voice or Security might be a good candidate, but their focus
is probably in a slightly different field.

• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting large scale EIGRP
networks

• Experience with non-Cisco vendors (such as Juniper, Foundry, CheckPoint,
Riverbed, F5, RadWare, PaloAlto, etc.)

• Some Cisco Nexus experience

• Some Storage Area Network (SAN) or Network Attached Storage (NAS)
experience

• Some IP Multicast experience

I look forward to hearing from you.
