Solidarity and Action for Human Rights Seeking Program Director

Solidarity and Action For Human Rights (SAHR) is a community based
organization serving the Muslim, South   Asian, Arab and Middle Eastern
communities, which have been targeted by the government and stigmatized
by the media since the World Trade Center attacks. SAHR's mission is to
provide much needed individual and community empowerment and to create
spaces for   community members to express their concerns. Our strong
organizing mission is complemented by   service provision components,
which includes legal and financial referrals in addition to detention
visits, courtroom support, family support and guidance to those who are
facing discrimination, persecution and denial of civil rights.

Job Description

1) Planning & Outreach:
Plan and implement programs and activities according to SAHR's mission,
goals and objectives.
Collaborate with other organizations to advance SAHR's objectives as an
advocate of immigrants' rights and social justice issues.
Outreach and coordinate events such as forums, training and workshops
and seek community   participation and empowerment.

2) Direct Services:
Provide direct services and advocate for the clients, make referrals to
legal & financial sources.
Continuously assess and document problems impacting individuals or
families in the community, work with others to seek change.

3) Administrative & Supervision:
Oversee day to day functioning, organizing and coordination of the
Project; work with staff and   volunteers to ensure coverage during
office open   hours.
Oversee expenditures and document financial records according to SAHR
guidelines, work with Board   designee   in keeping and submitting
financial transactions.
Supervise and coordinate work assignment for volunteers, interns and
staff members when applicable.
Write and submit regular project reports; communicate and work with the
Board of SAHR, funding partners and relevant others.

4) Pursue Funding Sources:
Research funding sources for grants applicable to SAHR's mission and
propose applications to the SAHR Board of Directors.
Write and submit grant proposals or supervise the delegation of the
work
to staff, interns, or volunteers.

5) Other duties as designated by the Board.

Qualifications:

1) B.A. or advance degrees, prior supervisory experience a plus
2) Has experience working in social services or community-based
agencies, preferably in South
Asian, Muslim or Arab communities; ability to work with individuals and
communities in distress; ability to work professionally with others.
3) Bilingual in Urdu or other South Asian language preferred,
understanding of cultures of affected populations is crucial.

Salary: Full time position, salary range is $38,000-$42,000 depending
on
experience
