"Details" magazine has printed in its April 2004 issue a racist spread
entitled "Gay or Asian?" A scan of the spread can be found at
http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~dhl1/gay1.gif
Monday, April 5 is a national call-in day to Details magazine to protest
and voice your disgust for Whitney McNally's column. Here is the
information to do so:
DETAILS
Daniel Peres (editor-in-chief) 212.630.4000
Whitney McNally (the writer) 212.630.3850
*Ask for editor of Details, and say something like the following
passage.
Hi, my name is _________ from ________(university, organization). I'm
calling to voice my disgust with your "anthropology" magazine column
called "Gay or Asian?". Images like these are not only offensive and
painful to the Asian Pacific American community, but more importantly,
have dangerous effects on the general public that is unaware of actual
Asian Pacific American heritage and our community. Other Asian Pacific
American students and I demand that you
-recall the April 2004 issue of Details
-issue a public apology to the APA community
-fire Whitney McNally and remove the "anthropology" column
from all future publications.
