HISTORY RECORDED, HISTORY REPEATED

News media literally makes history. But what about the stories not
being told, the stories that remain in the background? Compare how an
event as powerful as 9/11 is covered objectively and subjectively on
the news. These documentaries represent another perspective, the Asian
American impact on the power of the press.

EYEWITNESS: STAN HONDA
John Esaki | 2003 | 26 min | video | USA
A Japanese American photojournalist recounts the horror of not only
9/11, but also the war in Iraq, and the moving stories of the subjects
who survived the tragedies he captures through his camera lens.

LEST WE FORGET
Jason DeSilva | 2003 | 57 min | 16mm | USA
Why must history repeat itself? Japanese Americans reflect on how their
internment during World War II draws eerie parallels to the tragic
firsthand accounts of unconstitutional detainment and deportation of
"suspicious" Arabs, South Asian, Indians, Pakistanis and anyone of
brown skin tone by the post-9/11 American government. A powerful plea
against the media silence of unjust racial profiling that exacts an
enormous human toll, and its effects on innocent families and whole
generations.

THE YELLOW TRUTH
X. Dean Lim | 2003 | 14 min | video | USA
A humorous, yet stark look at the process of the institutionalizing of
Asian Americans in the Hollywood movie industry.
