*SQL DBA Position*
Location: Jacksonville FL
Rate: open
Title: SQL Database Administrator
Description:
Responsible for the administration, optimization, monitoring, tuning and
backup/retrieval of enterprise databases. Additional responsibilities
include creating and maintaining user access, space management, database
refreshes, and database security. Monitors database for potential problems
and creates end-user reports. May write and tune SQL or PL/SQL code. May
participate in data migration activities or work with application
development teams to provide database access and knowledge. Provides
appropriate consulting, interfacing, and training for users. Establishes and
maintains policies, standard operating procedures, and associated
documentation for user interaction with the database environment. A minimum
of 5-8 years experience as a Database Administrator is required.
Duties:
Monitors and troubleshoots databases* *in a complex, dynamic environment
with multiple open systems, and distributed platforms.
Performs tasks associated with SQL Server product planning and installation,
verifying all system resources required, planning and building instances,
creation and modification of the physical database objects, backup and
recovery planning and execution, performance monitoring and tuning and
applications support.
Duties also include 24x7 on call support and disaster recovery support as
necessary for mid-tier databases. Additional duties may include SQL Server
support tool evaluation and purchase recommendations. Must be able to plan
and manage small to medium size mid-tier projects to completion, be
proactive in work assignments.
Skills:
- Knowledge of how SQL Server databases impact systems.
- Maintain and update standard SQL Server operating procedures and training
documentation.
- Ability to compile support information and solutions for mid-tier
databases.
- Manage vendor problem tickets and works with vendors to diagnose database
problems and apply maintenance to resolve the problems.
- Provide assistance and guidance to database customers.
- Provides second level support and training to service desk team in
diagnosing database problems.
- Assists in research and implementing of new applications and systems
software products, enhancement of existing systems, analysis, problem
resolution, testing and supports other teams’ implementations.
- Develops, maintains and supports business continuity plans, scripts and
vital records.
- Plan and manage small to medium size projects to completion.
- Other tasks include problem and change management, including documentation
and management escalation.
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
- SQL Server administration skills
- Knowledge of mid-tier operating systems - RedHat Linux, Microsoft Windows
Knowledge of SQL Server, SQL, SQL Plus, SQL Server Reporting Services and
SQL Server Integration Services
- Knowledge of SQL Server tuning including SQL Server trace, producing and
interpreting explain plans and third party tools
- Ability to support SQL Server databases on virtual environments
- Ability to debug issues on SQL Server software
- Ability to coordinate, schedule and install SQL Server databases
- Ability to build and apply SQL Server patches
- Ability to support multiple SQL Server environments
- Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams
