Hi Derek, first - perhaps it's a solution to convert the RPM package to Debian with alien!? Did you try it? By the way - on http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Software-Building-HOWTO-4.html is good article for generally using tarballs instead of prepackaged binaries: download, unpack, ./configure, make, make install (as root), ready! Thirdly - In the special thing of sapdb it's still better to use ./SDBINST to install the tarball, isn't it?
